Will ID Vault work fine in a mixed Notes 7 and Notes 8 environment?

Greetings,
As the subject says will ID Vault work fine in a mixed Notes 7 and Notes 8 environment?
For example do only the Registration and Hub servers have to be running Domino 8 and the rest of the servers Domino 7 for ID Vault to work?
Or does the entire environment have to be running Domino 8 on all servers for ID Vault to work fine?
